Police Warn of Disturbingly Graphic Phone Scam

Thu, 09/26/2019 - 13:56

The Southampton Town Police Department has alerted the public to a phone scam involving graphic photos depicting an execution-style murder.

“Latino callers are texting or calling victims stating that they know where the victim works or lives and implying a threat of harm if the victim does not comply with demands of money,” police said.

There have been several reports of calls and texts using the same graphic photo or similar graphic photos depicting an execution-style murder. One was reported to Sag Harbor Village police; it included a text and a photo, but no demand for money.

Police warned not to send money to the caller. Persons receiving such a call or a text should report it to their local police department.
