No-Fling Spring in Offing

Thu, 03/28/2024 - 05:04

With summer approaching, efforts to beautify East Hampton Town will soon ramp up.

Christine Ganitsch of the town’s litter action committee told the town trustees on Monday that the second annual No-Fling Spring “is a way to put focus on the litter problem we have here in East Hampton and to get everyone involved in mitigating the problem.”

The campaign will launch on April 20 with several cleanups including of Springs-Fireplace Road “with all the stakeholders,” Ms. Ganitsch said, naming the East Hampton-Sag Harbor and Springs Citizens Advisory Committees, Bistrian Materials, Mickey’s Carting, and the litter committee. Other cleanups will be announced.

“The Story of Plastic,” a documentary, will be screened on May 9 at the East Hampton Library, presented by the committee in partnership with the library, Concerned Citizens of Montauk, and the Accabonac Protection Committee.

Last year, the trustees participated in No-Fling Spring with a cleanup at Lazy Point in Amagansett. Ms. Ganitsch asked for their participation in this year’s cleanup efforts.

No-Fling Spring month will conclude on May 18 with the second annual No-Fling Spring Fling, a dance party at the Springs Presbyterian Church. “Last year, it was attended by ages 3 to 90, so all are invited,” Ms. Ganitsch said.
