It's Tournament Time

Fishing is sometimes a gamble. Some days you are the hero, and the next outing you can be found sulking and wondering where the fish went. There are never any guarantees when you drop a baited hook and line. Fish markets make their livelihood this way.

For those entering a tournament, whether it be for a tiny flounder or a giant bluefin tuna nearing 1,000 pounds, the competition can be intense no matter the quarry at hand. And with that, a number of tournaments adorn the upcoming calendar for those seeking not only a tasty dinner, but a little extra cash in the pocket.

A Sign's Message

The first of two electronic billboards along Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays was made operational in time for Memorial Day weekend. Green-lighted by the Shinnecock Indian Nation, they were described in the tribal trustees’ news blitz as a source of much-needed economic development. They may turn out to be more of a miscalculation than an asset.

Summer Is Here

Amagansett

May 26, 2019

Dear David,

As the traffic thickened this past week it seemed like the normal rhythm of an East Hampton summer starting. However I sense something more pernicious in the air. The first hint was evident when I slowed down near Red Horse on Friday to let some poor soul make a left turn and suddenly I was barraged by a horn blaring from a car which went to my right to pass and came within inches of smashing into said poor soul. And they were mad? Shrugging, I looked at my wife and said “summer is here.”
