Baroque Music

    The Southampton Cultural Center will present “The Colors of Persuasion,” a concert by Flying Forms, on Saturday at 7 p.m. as part of the Southampton Cultural Center Chamber Music series. 

    The Colors of Persuasion alludes to the colors of sound used to bring Baroque music alive to the listener. Flying Forms is an early chamber music ensemble that collaborates with prominent musicians, musicologists, and baroque dancers in a variety of programs from traditional to experimental. The group has performed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Yale University, Symphony Space, (Le) Poisson Rouge, and Stony Brook University.

    Tickets will be sold online at southamptonculturalcenter.org and at the door and will cost $20, $10 for students. Credit cards will be accepted online and credit cards, cash, and checks will be accepted at the door.

Lifetime Achievement

    Guild Hall has announced its 27th Academy of the Arts Lifetime Achievement Awards recipients. They are Laurie Anderson for performing arts, Bruce Weber for visual arts, Jon Robin Baitz for literary awards, and Dina Merrill, who will receive a special award.

    A benefit dinner at the St. Regis Hotel rooftop ballroom will be held on March 5 to present the awards. Marshall Brickman will be master of ceremonies. The presenters will include Lou Reed, Eric Fischl, and Ted Hartley.

    Previous honorees have included Steven Spielberg, Billy Joel, Elaine Stritch, Mel Brooks, and Alec Baldwin for performing arts. Julian Schnabel, Willem de Kooning, Roy Lichtenstein, April Gornik, and Chuck Close have won for visual arts. Kurt Vonnegut, E.L. Doctorow, Edward Albee, Joseph Heller, and Joe Pintauro received awards for literary arts. Special Awards have been presented to Eli Wallach, Anne Jackson, and Peter Jennings, among others.

    Tickets to the awards ceremony start at $400 for young patrons (21 to 40 years old) and can be purchased by calling the special events department.
