BOYS SWIMMING: Pull Even at Huntington

    The East Hampton High School boys swimming team evened its league record with a 99-85 win at Huntington this past week.

    While Huntington had a state-record-holding swimmer, Gunther Cassel, in its lineup, and had divers to boot, East Hampton’s depth turned the tide.

    Among Bonac’s winners were its 200-yard medley relay team of Thomas Brierley, Trevor Mott, Chris Kalbacher, and Rob Rewinski; Shane McCann in the 50-yard freestyle; Thomas Brierley in the 100 free; Anthony McGorisk in the 100 backstroke; the 200 freestyle relay team of McCann, Tyler Menold, Mott, and Thomas Brierley, and the 400 freestyle relay team of Rewinski, Thomas Paradiso, Thomas Brierley, and Mott.

    East Hampton swept the 50 free, with McCann, Rewinski, and Cort Heneveld — a rare feat in any event, according to the team’s coach, Craig Brierley.

    Second-place finishers included Mott in the 200 freestyle, Christian Brierley in the 200 individual medley (with Paradiso a very close third), Kalbacher in the 100 butterfly, Rewinski in the 100 free, Paradiso in the 500 free, Christian Brierley in the 100 back, and Menold in the 100 breaststroke.

    “Christian, who competed in the 200 individual medley for the first time in two years, lowered his time by 18 seconds,” said his father, who added that his younger son had also dropped three seconds in the 100 back, and that Menold had dropped two seconds in the 100 breast.

    Charles Bourie made his debuts in the 200 and 500 freestyle races, placing fourth in the latter.

    East Hampton was to have had its first home meet of the season, with Hauppauge, yesterday at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter.
