Claiborne and Franey

The East Hampton Historical Society will hold an opening reception for its newest exhibit, “Craig Claiborne and Pierre Franey: Cookbook Revolutionaries in East Hampton,” tomorrow from 5 to 7 p.m. at Clinton Academy.

The exhibit will tell the story of how Claiborne, a food journalist, and Franey, a chef, influenced and transformed the American culinary scene for more than 30 years. Franey lived in Springs and  Claiborne in Northwest Woods. The exhibit will include treasured items from their kitchens, as well as photographs, cookbooks, and menus. It will be up through July 13.

This summer, the historical society, with the support of Ralph Lauren, will restore and preserve the Hedges Barn on Edwards Lane, one of the last remaining 18th-century barns in the village. The barn will be disassembled carefully and then reassembled on the Mulford Farm property on James Lane. The barn is reportedly in good condition for its age, and all of the original materials, with the exception of some of the shingles, will be retained during the restoration. Once completely restored, the barn will serve as an educational space for craft classes and programs focusing on the history of early farming on the South Fork.

Memorial Day marked the launch of  Ralph Lauren’s new East Hampton Historical Society collection for men, women, and children. The collection includes waffle tees, sweatshirts, baseball caps, and beach totes, which are available for purchase at the Polo Ralph Lauren East Hampton store and online. Fifty percent of proceeds from the collection will benefit the East Hampton Historical Society.
