Dinner and a Show in Southampton Via Springs
The Springs Community Theater is moving in new directions this weekend, literally and figuratively, with “A Night of Vaudeville,” which will consist of two performances, tomorrow and Saturday at 230 Elm in Southampton, 17 miles west of its usual home at the Springs Presbyterian Church. The show, which will start at 7:30 both evenings, will be preceded by a buffet dinner at 6.
“The idea of the vaudeville show has been a Springs Community Theater dream for a long time,” said Barbara Mattson, who founded the company in 2005 with Jayne Freedman. “It’s the kind of inclusive format where we can have all ages perform and connect through their love of theater, singing, and dancing.”
The show will begin with several Broadway songs, among them “Honey Bun” from “South Pacific,” “Nothing” from “A Chorus Line,” and numbers from “Hair,” “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Gypsy.” Solos will be performed by Colin Freedman and Allison Fiorello, both high school students, and Eric Jacobson has choreographed two dance numbers, one from “Footloose” that will “make you want to get up and dance,” according to Ms. Mattson.
“Cell Block Tango” from the musical “Chicago” will feature Susan Conklin, Jillian Griffiths, Lindsey Sanchez, Riley Goldstein, Stephanie Whitehorn, Ms. Fiorella, and “a special guest surprise.” The program is directed by Diana Horn and Ms. Freedman and produced by Ms. Mattson.
“I think it’s something we need in the Hamptons, an affordable night out with great food and entertainment,” said Ms. Mattson. “This is something we would like to do every year. We need singing and dancing in the world today.”
The dinner will include herb-crusted salmon, chicken francaise, roasted potatoes, a vegetable medley, penne alla vodka, salad, rolls and butter, and a small glass of wine. A cash bar will also be available. Tickets, which can be purchased at web.ovationtix.com, are $45. A portion of the proceeds will benefit performing arts scholarships for two East Hampton High School students.
