Gary Elmer Wood, a house painter who grew up in Springs, died of complications of esophageal cancer at his sister’s house in Pasco, Wash., on Feb. 19. He was 55 and had been diagnosed with the disease last month.

Mr. Wood’s family described him as a fun-loving guy who cherished spending time with his sisters, Natalie Jennings of Pasco and Kristy LaMonda of East Hampton, and their children. His sisters were with him when he died.

In addition to his sisters, he is survived by a stepmother, Alice Wood, two nieces, a nephew, a great-niece, and two great-nephews.

Born in Southampton on Jan. 29, 1964, to the former Roselle Miller and Carl Gordon Wood, he moved from East Hampton to Rock Springs, Wyo., in 1992.

He was cremated, and his ashes will be returned to East Hampton at a later date.
