A Chain Reaction
Vinnie Alibrandi, the owner of and pharmacist at White’s Pharmacy in East Hampton, took out a full-page ad last week in The Star urging drugstore chains like CVS and Rite Aid to stop selling cigarettes.
“I don’t think it’s responsible for pharmacies that supposedly represent health and wellness to make money selling prescriptions to treat lung cancer when they also make money selling cigarettes, the major cause of lung cancer,” Mr. Alibrandi said in a release.
He is hoping that the ad starts a chain reaction, influencing other independent drugstores and pharmacies in the area to rally around the cause to end “chain smoking.” The ad says, “CVS, Duane Reade, and Rite Aid — cut the smoke. Stop selling cancer.”
White’s Pharmacy is the oldest continually operating retail business in East Hampton.
