After 38 years in uniform, including for the East Hampton Village Police Department and as a Suffolk County deputy sheriff, Kenneth Lambert died on Jan. 7 in Port Charlotte, Fla. He was 82 and had leukemia.

While he was an officer with the village, he volunteered with the Springs Fire Department. He also worked as a park ranger at Cedar Point Park and was the first scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 298.

He retired in 1993 and moved to Port Charlotte, where he enjoyed visiting the local shooting range and spending time with his great-granddaughter.

Mr. Lambert was born in New York City on April 4, 1935, to William and Gladys Lambert, and grew up in Farmingville. He began his long career in service by joining the Army, for which he was stationed in France and Germany.

In 1957 he married Carol Rea, who survives. The couple moved to Springs in 1960.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Lambert is survived by three children, Dianne Lambert and Kelly Lambert of Port Charlotte and Kenneth Lambert of East Hampton, as well as three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

A service is scheduled for Feb. 16 at 9:30 a.m. at Sarasota National Cemetery in Florida.
