Margaret Lewis, 91

Margaret Lewis, a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in East Hampton who had 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, died at Southampton Hospital on Friday. She was 91 and had been ill.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Orange County, N.C., on Sept. 23, 1924. Her parents were John Wallace and Oppie Person Wallace, and Mrs. Lewis came north, settling here and graduating from Bridgehampton High School. She was married to Clarence Lewis.

Mrs. Lewis had worked as a domestic cook. In addition to membership at Calvary Baptist, she had been a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Freemason organization open to women as well as men.

She is survived by three children: John E. Lewis and Cheryl O. Lewis, both of East Hampton, and Gail V. Harris of Central Islip. In addition to all the grandchildren, her big family includes 12 nieces and nephews. A sister, Ruth Washington of Baltimore, also survives.

Visiting hours will be held from 10 a.m. to noon tomorrow with a service immediately following at the church and burial at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton.
