Margaret Zukas, who immigrated to this country with her family when she was 2, died at home in East Hampton on Monday. She was 91 and had been in failing health for several years.

Mrs. Zukas and her husband, Thomas J. Zukas, were living in East Moriches when, in 1981, they opened Zukas Real Estate in Water Mill. They closed the business in the early 1990s, and although they kept a house in East Hampton, she moved here year round only in 2014, after her husband died.

The former Margaret Feuerstein was born in Frankfurt, Germany, on April 20, 1926, one of two daughters of Gustav and Elizabeth Feuerstein. Her sister, Lydia Schneid of Connecticut, died before her.

She grew up in Queens. Her son Thomas Zukas of East Hampton said that his paternal uncle told his father, Thomas, “Learn to roller-skate and you’ll meet a girl,” which is what happened. Mr. Zukas met Margaret Feuerstein while skating in Nassau County, and they would often compete in roller-skate dance contests.

In addition to her son, four other children survive: Lawrence Zukas of Amherst, Mass., Linda Zukas of Maine, Patricia Zukas of Port Townsend, Wash., and Margaret Zukas of Phoenix. Her son Stephen Zukas of East Hampton died in 2003. Three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren survive as well.

The family will receive friends at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton tonight between 6 and 8. Mrs. Zukas was cremated. There will be a graveside service at Calverton National Cemetery in Riverhead tomorrow at 11 a.m.
