Mark Jay Meyer
Mark Jay Meyer, known to many who frequented the Amagansett Building Materials company and Village Hardware in East Hampton before that, died of unknown causes on Saturday. He was 50 years old.
A funeral service was scheduled for today at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in East Hampton starting at 10:30 a.m. He was to be buried in the church cemetery on Cedar Street.
He was born in Hyannis, Mass., on Aug. 10, 1962, to Ralph J. Meyer and the former Carrie King. His family moved to Springs when he was 3. He attended the Most Holy Trinity school until the eighth grade and graduated with East Hampton High School’s class of 1980. He worked at the Shaw Aero Devices company in Wainscott before joining Village Hardware.
His marriage in 1992 to Aranka Farcas ended in divorce. The couple’s daughter, Melissa Meyer, lives in East Hampton. “He was the best dad ever,” she wrote. “He treated me like a princess. He was always there for me and supported me with any decisions I made.” He is also survived by a sister, Brenda Meyer MacPherson of East Hampton.
Mr. Meyer was a former member of the East Hampton Dory Rescue Squad. He enjoyed hunting, Nascar races, baseball, and Ohio State football.
Memorial contributions were suggested for the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, 90 Daniel’s Hole Road, East Hampton 11937.
