Maureen Wiles, 72

Maureen Wiles, who had worked at the North Main Street Cleaners and the North Main Street I.G.A. in East Hampton before moving to Virginia, then to Spring Hill, Fla., died on Nov. 10 after a heart attack, her family said. She was 72.

Friends knew Mrs. Wiles as Moe. She was a Boy Scout leader in East Hampton and active in the American Legion post in Amagansett, her sister, Carol George of Victoria, Va., said. She had also organized East Hampton blood drives.

She was born on April 29, 1946, in Brooklyn, the daughter of the former Mildred Knight and Laurence Hill. As a young child, she lived in Massapequa, before the growing Hill family moved to Islip, where she attended high school. They then moved to East Hampton, where they had a house on Three Mile Harbor Road. She lived later on Seventh Street, off Gardiner Avenue, in Springs.

She was married to Donald Wiles, who died before her. Their three children, Victoria Sharpletti and Donald Wiles Jr. of Georgetown, S.C., and Brian Wiles of Spring Hill, Fla., survive. In addition to her sister Carol George, she is survived by four brothers and sisters, Larry Dill of Arizona, Paul Dill of Pennsylvania, Valerie Recktenwald of Spring Hill, and Marilyn King of Riverhead. Her family said she was especially close to a nephew and niece, Gary George Jr. and Melissa George, whom she took care of from time to time and did activities with, as she would with several other nieces and nephews.
