The John Drew Theater Lab will present a free staged reading of “What About Miami,” a new play by Rebecca Schull, on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Ms. Schull, a stage, screen, and television actress, was the founder and artistic director of Open World Theatre Company, which presented readings of plays banned in their countries of origin.

Set in Miami in 1963, the year of the Kennedy assassination, the play follows a family recently arrived in that city that finds itself unexpectedly caught up in the consequences of the influx of Cuban refugees and the fallout from the killing of the president.

Ms. Schull’s acting career began in Dublin, where she worked at the Focus Theatre and received the all-Ireland Hibernia Award for best actress. Perhaps best known for her role as Fay on “Wings,” a sitcom that ran for seven years on NBC, she also appeared on “Law and Order,” “Fraser,” “Roseanne,” and many other TV shows, as well as in such films as “United 93,” “Analyze This,” and “My Life.”

Directed by Tina Johnson, “What About Miami” stars Julia Motyka, Peter Rini, Drew Cortese, Elvy Yost, and Caitlin O’Connell.
