Polar Bear Plunges Monday

Three ocean plunges
By
Jack Graves

There will be ocean plunges Monday at Gurney’s Resort in Montauk, at Main Beach in East Hampton Village, and at Beach Lane in Wainscott.

The Gurney’s one, which benefits the Retreat, an East Hampton organization that provides services for victims of domestic violence, is to go off at 10:00 a.m., the Main Beach one at 1 p.m., and the one at Wainscott at 2:30.

The Main Beach plunge, put on by the East Hampton Village Ocean Rescue Squad and sponsored by the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter, benefits the East Hampton food pantries.

Plungers, who have been asked to solicit donations, are to register at Main Beach from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Coffee, hot chocolate, soup, chili, and hot dogs will be served by East Hampton Y.M.C.A. Hurricane swim team parents.

The Wainscott plunge — the granddaddy of the plunges here — is to begin with a run to the beach with Colin Mather from his Seafood Shop on Montauk Highway at 2 p.m. J.G.
