Potter and Whelan to Remain Board Leaders

In the new year, the leadership of the East Hampton Town Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals will remain the same. 

The town board on Tuesday reappointed Job Potter as chairman of the planning board and Nancy Keeshan as vice chairwoman. This will be the second year as chairman for Mr. Potter, whose term on the board expires in 2020. Ms. Keeshan has been the vice chairwoman for several years. Her term on the board expires at the end of 2018. 

On the zoning board, John Whelan, whose term expires at the end of 2019, will once again be chairman. Cate Rogers, whose term expires at the end of 2018, is repeating as vice chairwoman.

In addition, David Lys, who replaced Sharon McCobb after she stepped down from the zoning board in early 2013, was appointed by a 4-0 vote to begin his own five-year term on the board. (The town board has only four members, as a replacement for Peter Van Scoyoc, a former councilman who is the new town supervisor, has not yet been named.)

Continuing their terms on the zoning board alongside Mr. Whelan, Ms. Rogers, and Mr. Lys are Roy Dalene, whose five-year term expires at the end of 2020, and Theresa Berger, whose term expires at the end of 2021.

One issue the town board did not deal with Tuesday is Diana Weir’s expired term on the planning board. Although Ms. Weir could be reappointed, that appeared unlikely during a Dec. 13 planning board meeting, as her fellow members thanked her for her years of service. Planning board terms last seven years. Mr. Van Soyoc said yesterday that he plans to fill the seat later this month. There are seven seats on the planning board. Other members who remain along with Mr. Potter and Mr. Keeshan are Ian Calder-Piedmonte, whose term expires at the end of 2019; Kathleen Cunningham, whose term expires at the end of 2021; Patti Leber, whose term expires at the end of 2022, and Randall Parsons, whose term runs through the end of 2023.
