Salon Concert Series at the Parrish Art Museum Returns

The Salon Series of concerts by young, award-winning classical musicians will open its 10th iteration at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill tomorrow at 6 p.m. with a performance by the pianist Fei-Fei Dong. The series, during which performers offer insight and personal anecdotes about their programs, will continue on consecutive Fridays through Oct. 27.

Ms. Dong will open the concert with the complete 24 Preludes, Op. 28 by Frederic Chopin. The preludes are short pieces for the piano, each written in one of the 24 major and minor keys, that present radically different moods and challenges to the pianist.

Written between 1835 and 1839, several of the preludes have entered popular culture, including Prelude No. 4 in E minor, which was played by Jack Nicholson in “Five Easy Pieces” and Meryl Streep in “Florence Foster Jenkins.”

Ms. Dong will also play “Reminiscences de Don Juan” by the Hungarian composer and pianist Franz Liszt. The piece, based on themes from the Mozart opera “Don Giovanni,” required sustained dramatic intensity and has been described as “the highest point of pianism” by the composer/pianist Ferruccio Busoni.

Winner of the Concert Artists Guild Competition and a top finalist at the 14th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Ms. Dong was born in Shenzhen, China, and began piano lessons at the age of 5. She has performed in Manhattan at Alice Tully Hall and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, and in Europe at the Louvre and the Warsaw Philharmonic Concert Hall, among many others.

Subsequent programs will feature a concert for two pianos by Arianna Korting and Robin Giesbrecht on Oct. 13, the Gloriosa Trio on Oct. 20, and, on Oct. 27, the Italian pianist Niccolo Ronchi, who has played throughout Europe and the United States.

All programs start at 6 p.m. and are followed by receptions with the artists. Tickets are $25; $10 for members, students, and children.
