A Tribute to Salter and Doctorow

The winter/spring issue of The Southampton Review celebrates two heavyweight novelists recently departed, James Salter of Bridgehampton and E.L. Doctorow of Sag Harbor, with work by those two, by Mr. Salter’s widow, the journalist Kay Salter, and by the admired short-story writer George Saunders, who explores Mr. Salter’s wide influence on American letters.

The new journal, a product of the M.F.A. program in creative writing and literature at Stony Brook Southampton, will be launched with a reception tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Stony Brook Manhattan campus — specifically the third floor at 101-113 East 27th Street. The edition also features an interview with Mr. Doctorow, a story by Amy Hempel, and, as ever, poetry by Billy Collins, cartoons a la The New Yorker, and fiction by graduate student “emerging voices.”
