The Madoo Conservancy’s winter lecture series will feature a talk by Beka Sturges, an associate principal of Reed Hilderbrand Landscape Architects, on Sunday at noon in Sagaponack. While its main offices are in New Haven, Conn., and Cambridge, Mass., the firm is no stranger to the East End, where its commissions have included the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill and several private residences.

Ms. Sturges said she will discuss water and landscape on Long Island and “suggest ways in which encounters with water, on the scale of the Atlantic, on the scale of the bay, on the scale of the pond, the pool, and the fountain affect us and our understanding of climate, and seasons, and change.” She will also talk about several specific projects, including making gardens within old working landscapes, among them a mill site and a quarry site, where water was central to the means of production.

The lecture will take place in the recently restored 1740 barn and be followed by a reception in the adjacent Summerhouse. Tickets are $25, $20 for members.
