If the impeachment hearings and the Democratic debates aren’t doing it for you anymore, you might want to check out “Viewpoints,” the Watermill Center’s conversation series devoted to a variety of creative themes. It kicks off Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. with a talk by Andrina Wekontash Smith, a member of the Shinnecock Nation and a former Watermill Center resident artist.
Ms. Smith will discuss her most recent project, an in-depth exploration of Long Island’s early history, which focuses on Long Island’s long neglected cultural history, and the importance of the American Nations that have and still reside here. Her training with tribal elders and historic preservation officers has prepared her to articulate the narrative of her tribe.
A current house team writer-performer at the Peoples Improv Theater in New York City, Ms. Smith’s solo work has been featured in festivals throughout the tristate area and locally at both Bay Street Theater and Guild Hall.
Future speakers will include Michael Daly, a community advocate and organizer from Sag Harbor, who will talk about his five-day journey on the Living Legacy Civil Rights Pilgrimage to Alabama, Dorothy Reilly and Tina Mills, climate activists from Drawdown East, who will envision a future when global warming has been reversed, and Carl Lawrence, an artist, director, and organizer from Seattle, who will reflect on the power of performance.
The talks are free, but reservations are required through the center’s website.
