Art for a Cause
George Anthony Morton, whose work was first shown in Sag Harbor at the Grenning Gallery in 2017, is the subject of a new HBO documentary, "Master of Light," which charts his journey from 11 years in prison to the Florence Academy of Art and the funding and creation of Atelier South in Atlanta, a teaching facility for underserved communities.
The gallery has created 50 prints of Mr. Morton's award-winning 2016 charcoal drawing "Mars" on archival paper. Twenty-four prints remain for sale for $350 each plus shipping; all proceeds will benefit Atelier South.
Prints can be purchased on the Grenning website, or by donating a minimum of $400 directly to Atelier South through repjustice.org/mars.
Unique Impressions
The next Printmaking Monotype workshop at The Church in Sag Harbor is more than a month away, but each of the sessions sells out well in advance due to limited space.
A monotype is a one-of-a-kind impression made when ink or paint has been manipulated on a plate and then run through a press with paper, resulting in a unique mirror image.
The next two sessions, set for Jan. 26 and Feb. 22, will be led by a pair of local printmakers, Samuel Havens, an artist with a B.F.A. from SUNY Oneonta in studio and digital art, and Susan Bachemin, who holds a B.F.A. in printmaking from Carnegie Mellon University.
Each session costs $200 and runs from 2 to 6 p.m. The fee includes all materials and the use of the American French Tool etching press.
Seven at Nightingale
A group show of work by seven artists is at the Sara Nightingale Gallery in Sag Harbor through Jan. 2. Participating artists are Monica Banks, Allison Meyer, Kim Romero, JoAnne Carson, Suzanne Unrein, Nedret Andre, and Theo Willis.
