"Visions," an exhibition of paintings by Svetlana Vasina, a Russian artist now based in New York City, opens Thursday at the Lucore Art Gallery in Montauk and will run through Nov. 28.
Classically trained, Ms. Vasina will show elaborate surrealistic paintings, some of which are inspired by old Russian fairy tales and legends. At the center of the desolate landscape of "Emptiness," for example, sits a large figure that is both a female body and a structure, with stairs leading up to an open doorway at its center. In "Amid the Sand Castles," massive faces emerge from detailed architectural structures.
A reception will be held on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.
