Jazz as an Inspiration for Visual Art

The performance of the Bobby Sanabria Quartet at The Church in Sag Harbor will include anecdotes about jazz and its history.

The Church in Sag Harbor, in collaboration with the Reutershan Educational Trust, will present "Music and Art: The Bobby Sanabria Quartet in Concert" on Wednesday at 6 p.m. 

Part recital and part lecture, the performance illuminates the history and methodology of jazz as an inspiration for making visual art. The audience will be introduced to various forms of jazz and their relationship to cultural influences, structures, and improvisation.

Mr. Sanabria is an eight-time Grammy-nominated percussionist, composer, arranger, conductor, and educator whose album "West Side Story Reimagined" was named 2019 Record of the Year by the Jazz Journalist Association.

Tickets are $25, free for Sag Harbor students from grades 9 through 12 who register on The Church's website. The snow date is Jan. 25, 6 p.m.
