Benefit at Borghi
The Mark Borghi Gallery in Sag Harbor will hold a private viewing of its current exhibition, "3 Women Choose," as a benefit for Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. The suggested donation is $100.
The exhibition features work by three abstract painters. Paula DeLuccia's surfaces are vibrant with swirling, thickly applied areas of color. Lauren Olitski challenges the conventional rectangular frame by adding pieces to create irregularly shaped canvases. Ann Walsh's focus is on creating freestanding and three-dimensional paintings consisting of bands of saturated, high-key color.
Margaret Garrett Solo
"The Still Point," a show of new paintings and works on paper by Margaret Garrett, will open next Thursday at the Planthouse Gallery in Manhattan with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m.
Ms. Garrett, an interdisciplinary artist who lives on Shelter Island, danced with the Pennsylvania and Cleveland Ballet companies before discovering painting in her early 20s. The works on view continue her approach to movement and music, translating the arts into two-dimensional abstract compositions.
"I see the paper or canvas as an empty stage and the line as movement: texture, form, the way that colors interact are all different manifestations of motion and energy," she has said.
The exhibition will continue through Jan. 13.
