Jazz and Greek Drama
The Music Mondays series at Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theater will conclude this week with "Charlie Parker Celebration -- Bird Lives!", an 8 p.m. performance by the Charles McPherson Quartet, featuring Randy Brecker, a seven-time Grammy Award-winning trumpet player.
Mr. McPherson has toured the world with his own group, as well as with such jazz icons as Billy Eckstine, Lionel Hampton, Nat Adderly, Dizzy Gillespie, and Wynton Marsalis.
Tickets start at $69.99.
Also at Bay Street, a weeklong workshop for adults, devoted to Greek drama and a contemporary adaptation of Aristophanes's antiwar comedy "Lysistrata," will kick off Monday at 9:30 a.m. and culminate in a staged reading on Friday, Sept. 1.
Led by Allen Reilly and Teresa DeBerry, the first four sessions will be devoted to exploring the history and background of Greek drama, casting the roles, and building the ensemble, with a focus on blending the ancient sensibility with a contemporary nod to modern sexual politics and the war in Ukraine.
There will be minimal staging and no memorization. Music will be part of the final presentation.
The fee is $300.
