The Southampton Arts Center has entered into an association with Center Stage for a series of stories, dramas, readings, and radio plays for the 2023-2024 season, under the direction of Michael Disher and Joan Bennett Lyons.

Open auditions for the first production, the Long Island premiere of Joe Landry's "War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast, a Live Radio Play," will be held at the center on Saturday afternoon from 1 to 4. The first rehearsal will take place on Sunday.

Mr. Landry's play is inspired by and includes the infamous 1938 Halloween radio broadcast, adapted by Howard Koch from the H.G. Wells novel and directed and narrated by Orson Welles.

Auditions will begin promptly; late arrivals will be seen at Mr. Disher's discretion. Readings will be from the script, and sides will be provided.

Performances will take place Oct. 21 and Oct. 22. More information is available from [email protected].

Also at the arts center, Surf Movie Night XXI, a fund-raiser for Surfrider Eastern Long Island's clean water and coastal preservation programs, will be held outdoors on Friday. Doors will open at 5, and films will begin at dusk. Refreshments will be for sale. Blankets or chairs have been suggested.

Tickets are $25 and up, $10 for ages 2 to 12. Sunday is the rain date.
