Pure Color
"Hector Leonardi: Orchestrating Color," an exhibition of recent paintings by the Bridgehampton artist, can be seen at the Drawing Room in East Hampton through March 31.
Mr. Leonardi, who lives and works in a converted potato barn, studied color theory with Josef Albers in the 1950s at Yale University, so it's no surprise that color is a primary element of his paintings. His abstract works combine the direct application of paint on canvas with swaths of dried acrylic paint that he cuts into strips, small rectangles, or triangles, and affixes to the surface.
A salon-style exhibition featuring work by Mats Gustafson, Alice Hope, Kathryn Lynch, Racelle Strick, and John Torreano is running concurrently.
Night Studio
The Church in Sag Harbor will hold a late-night open studio on Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. Artists working in all mediums can join, socialize, and work on projects of their choice.
Attendees are responsible for taking their own supplies, including easels, and for their own cleanup, which should begin before the event concludes. There is limited capacity, so the evening will be first come, first served.
Tickets are $10, free for members of The Church, but only registering in advance or purchasing a ticket through the venue's website will guarantee a spot.
Urban Energy
"Bouquet: Rise! The Pursuit Of Nectar," a solo exhibition of new paintings by Craig Anthony Miller, will open Friday at the Stella Flame Gallery in Bridgehampton with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, Mr. Miller has an M.F.A. from St. John's University. His paintings, which feature animal totems, religious symbols, sacred texts, and folklore, reflect his fascination with stained glass and the energy of the urban landscape.
In recognition of Black History Month, a portion of proceeds from sales during the opening reception will benefit the Southampton African American Museum.
The show will run through Feb. 29.
Holiday Show Sendoff
Sag Harbor's Romany Kramoris Gallery will hold a catered closing reception for its current show, "Annual Small Works Holiday Invitational," on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m.
