Open Call
The Hampton Theatre Company in Quogue will hold non-equity auditions for “The Thanksgiving Play” by Larissa FastHorse on Sunday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 5:30 to 8 at the Quogue Community Hall.
Ms. FastHorse became the first known Native American female playwright to have work produced on Broadway when “The Thanksgiving Play” opened at Second Stage’s Hayes Theater in 2023. Jesse Green of The New York Times called it a “brutal satire about mythmaking” and “cheerfully cutthroat.”
The play centers on four white people trying to put on a culturally sensitive holiday production. The characters are Logan, a female high school drama teacher; Jaxton, a male actor and yoga practitioner; Alicia, a female, “sexy and hot, but not all that bright,” and Caden, a male elementary school history teacher. All characters are deliberately white or “white-passing,” and white-passing actors of any ethnic background have been encouraged to audition.
Rehearsals will begin on Sept. 4. Performance dates are Oct. 16 through Nov. 2. Appointments can be scheduled and more information obtained by emailing [email protected] or calling 631-653-8955.
