REEB is a New Orleans-style brass band made up of eight musicians and educators based on the East End

Real East End Brass, better known at REEB, will be at LTV Studios Friday evening at 7:30 as part of the Wainscott venue’s East End Underground Live Concert Series.

REEB is a New Orleans-style brass band made up of eight musicians and educators based on the East End. The group is known for blending jazz, funk, and pop music in its own musical gumbo.

Chris Mandato, currently the East Hampton High School band director, is REEB’s trumpet player. After settling here he initiated REEB as a way to pursue the music of New Orleans, write original music, and play locally.

The band’s lead vocalist, Dylan Greene, is a Springs native who, outside of REEB, teaches K-5 general music and middle school chorus at that hamlet’s school. Joseph Randazzo, the band’s newest member, plays sousaphone and bass guitar. He is a music teacher at Riverhead High School and director of its band program.

Nick Silipo, the band’s guitarist and background vocalist, began his musical career playing alto saxophone at Springs School. After time away from the area, he moved back in 2018 and was asked to join the then-forming band. Meghan Kelly, who is a K-4 general music teacher in the Riverhead School district, plays the clarinet and baritone saxophone.

Originally from Westhampton Beach, Tye Granger plays the clarinet and the tenor sax. He began his teaching career in the East Hampton School District as the middle school band director. A retired orchestra teacher, Troy Grindle plays drums, fiddle, and also sings in the band. And that leaves Shawn Ward, a trombonist and sousaphone player who grew up on the East End and returned after college to teach in various local schools.

Tickets cost $35 in advance, $40 at the door, with cafe table seating available for $65, including a drink.
