Poet at Barnes & Noble
We’ll say it again: The Barnes & Noble at the Bridgehampton Commons hosts authors. On Saturday at 1 p.m., one such, Kathy Engel, will be pulling up from Sagaponack to sign her latest, “Dear Inheritors,” from Get Fresh Books, a collection of poems political and passionate, questioning and hopeful.
Ms. Engel is an associate arts professor at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
For Local Writers
You have only two days, but lives change and empires fall in such a brief window. The Saturday deadline in this case refers to the Writer’s Desk residency at Stony Brook Southampton, where applications are being accepted for the fall session at the Lichtenstein Center’s M.F.A. program in creative writing and literature.
The successful candidate will be given a private space for writing, with the expectation that it be used a minimum of 20 hours per week.
“This residency is designed to give a local writer the opportunity to disconnect from the distractions of everyday life and focus on their work,” Christian McLean, the M.F.A. program’s associate director, said in a release.
Whether you write creative nonfiction, poetry, or fiction, have at it, scribes. That same release, it should be said, touts “opportunities for networking with fellow writers” and “a public reading to showcase the resident’s work.”
The page at this link has an application portal. Otherwise, Mr. McLean can field questions at [email protected].
Talkin’ Greenwich Village
David Browne, Shelter Islander and senior writer at Rolling Stone, will put in an appearance on Saturday at Sag Harbor Books to sign copies of “Talkin’ Greenwich Village: The Heady Rise and Slow Fall of America’s Bohemian Music Capital,” just out from Hachette.
Billed as “the definitive history” of that scene, the book is “based on over 150 interviews,” from Sonny Rollins to Arlo Guthrie to Suzanne Vega.
Five o’clock is the start time. Dig in, music fans.
