Fridays at Five, the granddaddy of the readings series out here, continues apace on the back lawn of the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, tomorrow welcoming one of this country's leading novelists, Alice McDermott, with her latest, "Absolution."
The time is the 1960s, and the focus is three American women living as expats in Vietnam during the war, and their efforts to do some good and make a difference in a difficult situation, to put it mildly.
"The epistolary technique of each narration being addressed to 'you' inevitably brings the reader close to the story," Fran Castan wrote in her Nov. 2 review in these pages. The "accounts of their lives become as intimate as if you were privy to their locked diaries."
Tickets are $25 at the gate, which opens at 4:30.
