So of all people, Attorney General William Barr on Tuesday made the obvious concession that there was no evidence of voting fraud that could change the outcome of the November election. One guess who has not yet acknowledged reality — the East End’s own scared-of-his-own-shadow congressional representative, Lee Zeldin.
Attorney General Barr’s position is especially notable, given the source. He essentially auditioned for the job in a letter to the White House offering a near-total view of presidential power. And in the lead-up to the election he was outspoken about problems with mail-in ballots that could lead to more fraud. Mr. Barr told the Associated Press that both United States attorneys and F.B.I. agents had followed up on the specific complaints that have come in, but that there was nothing to suggest a conspiracy to help Joe Biden. Mr. Zeldin, are you even paying attention?
As the occupant of what appears to be a secure seat in the House of Representatives and with Mr. Trump heading out the White House door soon, we might have thought that Mr. Zeldin would finally grow the courage to admit the obvious.
