Happy Homecoming

Have you heard? East Hampton High School Homecoming will be held in Herrick Park! (And never before have Star editors used so many letter "H's in a lede.) Kickoff is the morning of Oct. 19, with a parade from the school to the park, where there will be a festival and football game.

It's heartening to see the revival of Bonac football, a tradition that dates back to 1923 but has been on a rough ride recently.

With too few players to field a varsity team, E.H.H.S. took a hiatus from countywide competition in 2014, 2016, 2017, and 2018. (That had only happened twice before, during World War II, and in 1978, when the school budget failed.) While the high school program was on pause, however, East Hampton Middle Schoolers continued to play and, with those athletes rising up through the grades, the high school was able to return to the field at the junior varsity level in 2018. Varsity was to have finally suited up again in the fall of 2020 — but then Covid-19 postponed athletics to the spring of 2021, when there was only a truncated season.

By 2021, varsity football was on solid footing again, and it's continued to gain steam ever since.

See you there to cheer the maroon and gray.
