Driving in the dark is hard enough for some folks. Adding rain into the picture makes this challenging task even more so. And where pavement markings on the road are barely visible, these factors in combination present the potential for trouble.
The intersection at Cedar Street and North Main Street and the split a bit farther north at Three Mile Harbor Road and Springs-Fireplace Road are two areas that desperately need a fresh set of painted lines to guide drivers safely down each street. Those double yellow lines are hard to see on a good day, let alone in inclement weather or darkness.
The Cedar Street junction particularly irks us because it was the site of roadwork earlier this year. The lack of visible lines makes it feel like an unfinished job. And the potential roundabout project at Three Mile Harbor and Springs-Fireplace is still a long way off, so defined lines would go a long way in the interim.
It’s a simple matter of safety. We implore the county, town, and village public works departments to address this with haste.
