Citing the ongoing pandemic, the New York State Education Department has canceled the Regents exams scheduled for January 2021. The Board of Regents, which oversees public education in the state, will meet in December to plan out graduation requirements for those high school students who were counting on taking the January exams to graduate.
"Throughout the pandemic our priority has been the health and well-being of our students and educators," Betty A. Rosa, interim education commissioner, said in a statement. "We determined the January Regents exams could not be safely, equitably, and fairly administered across the state given where the pandemic currently stands."
The Education Department has not yet made a decision about the June and August exams.
