The extensive renovation and expansion at the Bridgehampton School, which was halted for a time because of the pandemic, has been deemed an essential construction project. Work resumed on Monday.

Robert Hauser, the district superintendent, said by phone on Tuesday that the project is now four weeks behind schedule, but that if school remains closed through the end of the academic year in June, the crews may be able to make up the lost time.

“There were 28 bricklayers who were on the job a month ago. We’re waiting to see how many show up, because personally they may have reservations about working so close to their co-workers, even though it’s outside.”

The $29.4 million project, first approved by voters in December 2016, will add about 35,400 square feet to the 30,000-square-foot building.
