Bus Agreement Extended

The Sag Harbor School Board last week signed an intermunicipal agreement with the Sagaponack School District to serve as the school bus provider taking Sagaponack students to their respective schools. An extension of a previous agreement, this means the 2020-21 school year will be the third that Sag Harbor is responsible for transporting all of Sagaponack's students.

According to school documents, the agreement adds a 2.5-percent increase to Sagaponack's payments to Sag Harbor, totaling $166,380. The Sagaponack School houses kindergarten through third grade, and students in other grades have the option to attend schools in East Hampton, Sag Harbor, or Bridgehampton.

A New Business Official

The Bridgehampton School District has hired Jennifer Coggin as its new business official. She succeeds Melisa Stiles, who departed in June for an UpIsland school district after about two and a half years in the position.

Ms. Coggin was appointed on July 1. State records show she received her "school business leader" certification on July 8, and Bridgehampton School Board records show that her first day was to be July 27. Her starting salary is $100,000, and the initial contract is for four school years, through about July 26, 2024, with future contract changes to be decided on an annual basis.

Scholarships Awarded

The Kendall Madison Foundation, which recognizes two East Hampton High School athletes each year, has awarded its 2020 scholarships to Leah Hatch and Thomas Desmond.

Both students played two or more sports in high school and plan to go on to a four-year college or university. The scholarships are $1,000 per year for four years. The awards are given in memory of Kendall Madison, a community-minded East Hampton student-athlete who died in 1995.
