With school back in session, online homework help is being made more available to library patrons across the East End. The sessions, hosted by Brainfuse, an online tutoring provider, offer one-on-one help and test prep in a wide range of subjects for students in kindergarten through 12th grade on weekdays between 10 a.m. and 11 p.m.
"The tutoring is available to all Suffolk County public library cardholders at no cost," the Public Libraries of Suffolk County wrote in a release. "For some students, certain subjects are a struggle even in a traditional classroom setting. With the hybrid learning model, it is not going to get any easier."
Students as well as parents or guardians who may need extra help with homework or test prep throughout the academic year can make use of the program. Sessions began last Thursday. Live tutors are accessible by using a library barcode number via Livebrary.com/study-homework.
Libraries offering the service on the South Fork are the John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor, the Amagansett Library, the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, the Montauk Library, the East Hampton Library, and the Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton.
"Parents want the best education for their children, and Covid has posed some real challenges to the traditional way schools can provide that. Expanding the hours for one-to-one tutoring for students throughout the day can only ease the burden of busy parents trying to work from home, manage households, and make sure their children are getting the help they need with their schoolwork," said Danielle Paisley, the director of the Patchogue-Medford Library.
