The East Hampton School District's forum on affordable housing will now take place on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
To be moderated by Jackie Lowey, a school board member, the forum will explore topics such as residential zoning changes, mortgage assistance, and purchasing or building housing units. Experts in the housing industry are expected to take part, though community members will also be able to share opinions and ideas.
The goal is to find ways to mitigate shortages of teachers and other key employees, which are expected to worsen in the coming years. The district said in an announcement that it had determined that a minimum of 20 affordable units will be needed.
"We are all already aware of the escalating problems affiliated with the exorbitant and ever-growing housing prices, rentals, and cost of living on the East End," the district said. "Our affordable housing forum will focus on and speak to a collaborative effort of solution."
It will be broadcast online by LTV at youtube.com/c/LTVEastHampton.
