The East Hampton School Board on Tuesday approved its 2021-22 academic calendar. The first day of the next school year will be Sept. 8.

For the first time, Juneteenth will be recognized as a holiday, to be observed on June 20, a Monday. June 19, which is the actual date, recognizes the historic day in 1865 that Texas freed the nation's last slaves.

The school calendar shows three full days off during the week of Thanksgiving. The holiday break in December runs from Dec. 24 through Dec. 31. The last day of school is June 24, 2022. There are three snow days built into the calendar.

The calendar can be accessed on the Feb. 2 school board agenda, which can be found online at easthamptonschools.org.
