Embroiled in a Lawsuit

Thu, 04/22/2021 - 07:51

The East Hampton School Board on Tuesday signed on to a joint agreement among a dozen public school districts for legal representation in an asbestos-related lawsuit. The district will employ Lewis, Brisbois, Bisgaard, and Smith L.L.P. at a rate that breaks down to less than $20 per hour per district.

The notice of claim spurring the resolution was filed earlier this year by a man who worked as a heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning contractor in multiple schools on Long Island some years earlier, and who was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2019. Some districts, including Hicksville in Nassau County, have issued statements of vehement opposition to the contractor's claims.
