Family Films at Sag Harbor Cinema

A series of matinees for kids and families is good reason for kids to head to the Sag Harbor Cinema on weekends throughout the winter, but this weekend brings the bonus of a virtual Santa experience on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m. That could slot in nicely after taking in an 11 a.m. screening of short films from the New York International Children’s Film Festival, which includes selections suitable for ages 8 to 13 in English or with subtitles. The shorts will be shown again on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Tickets cost $12.50 for kids 12 and under, $16.50 for adults, and $13.50 for people 60 and over.

Mrs. Claus will be on hand to greet youngsters in person and pass out treats in front of the cinema on Saturday as they chat virtually with the busy man in the red suit.

The family and children’s matinees continue on weekends through at least March. Next up, on Dec. 24 and 25, will be “The Sound of Music” starring Julie Andrews, and on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 the cinema will show the classic “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” starring Gene Wilder. Tickets are available at the theater or at sagharborcinema.org.
