Amagansett School Board Member Resigns

Wed, 12/07/2022 - 18:10

Meredith Cairns, who was elected to a three-year term on the Amagansett School Board in May 2020, resigned from the post on Oct. 14. The rest of the board voted on Nov. 15 to accept her letter of resignation.

Ms. Cairns did not reply to a request for comment.

Kristen Peterson, the board’s president, said by email that the board will take up the matter of a successor in January. Under state law, its options include appointing a new member, holding a special election, or leaving the position open until the next election cycle in the spring.

“We are currently leaving it open and will decide after the holidays how we want to move forward,” she wrote.
