Town Trustees Award Scholarship
The East Hampton Town Trustees have awarded this year's Captain William J. Rysam Scholarship to Andrea Rivera Sagbay of East Hampton Village, who will graduate from East Hampton High School this month. Andrea plans to study pre-med biology at the State University at Geneseo and hopes to become a neurosurgeon.
The Rysam Fund helps support higher education for a graduating E.H.H.S. student, through assistance with college tuition. Seniors are invited to apply for the scholarship by submitting an essay expressing their understanding of the stewardship and responsibility the trustees have in the community today. Each trustee reads the anonymous submissions and casts a vote.
The $1,500 scholarship was awarded based on Andrea's essay and recommendations from her counselor and science teacher. "We wish her all the best in her studies in college and are sure she will succeed in her goal to become a neurosurgeon," said Susan McGraw-Keber of the trustees. C.W.
Caddy Receives Prestigious Scholarship
Joey Suter, an East Hampton High School senior who caddies at the Maidstone Golf Club, is one of only 300 students nationwide — and the first East Hampton student in at least 25 years — to receive the Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies.
The program has been facilitated by the Western Golf Association for 90 years and is named in honor of a legendary amateur golfer whose passion was helping young caddies be successful in college. Joey will attend the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan in the fall.
