Many students from Springs School marched in the East Hampton Village holiday parade on Saturday. The seventh and eighth graders in band played their instruments in the parade while other students marched with different organizations.

Avienne O’Shea, a sixth grader, for example, is a swimmer and was proud to march with her swim team, the East Hampton Hurricanes. When asked how she felt about marching, she said she enjoyed handing out candy to people watching the parade. “I felt honored to be marching with my team,” she said. “It was great being there with them.”

The seventh and eighth graders played the “Merry Christmas March” and “Jingle Bells.” The Springs School Band marched and did not ride on a float because their instruments did not require electricity. They had practiced every Friday morning for a month to perfect playing an instrument while walking, which requires coordination. “What I liked best about the parade was seeing the crowd enjoy the music,” said Ben Jones, the Springs School music teacher. There’s no doubt that the students who marched in this year’s parade outdid themselves and put everyone in the holiday spirit.
