Celebrating Black Stories in Sag

The New York International Children’s Film Festival will host a matinee short-film program titled “Celebrating Black Stories” for kids 9 and up this weekend at the Sag Harbor Cinema.

Included are “Comic Escape” (15 minutes), a live-action film about a boy whose reality changes when he discovers a special comic book; “Cupids” (10 minutes), which “follows a whole class on the last day of school as they scheme to find the perfect partner for their adored bus driver,” and “Generation Impact: The Coder” (seven minutes), a documentary about a 13-year-old girl who built an app to help children of incarcerated adults connect with them.

Two animated shorts will also be shown: “My Name Is Maluum” (eight minutes), in Portuguese with English subtitles, about a young girl who learns the important legacy of her name, and “Wolf and Cub” (eight minutes), in which a father and his son “cross a world of imagination” in order to deliver a forgotten lunch.

The program’s total run time is 76 minutes. Showtimes and ticket information can be found at sagharborcinema.org.
