The East Hampton Town Board issued a proclamation last Thursday that recognized Cooper Ceva, a new East Hampton High School graduate who lives in Montauk, for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout and thanked him “for his continued efforts to preserve the natural beauty of our community.”

Cooper, read Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc, conducted a three-year scientific research program at the State University at Albany that examined marine oil spills, and held an internship at LTV for which he interviewed local leaders regarding water pollution on Long Island. His membership in Boy Scout Troop 136 “has helped to foster his love for nature and beaches surrounding the local community,” the supervisor added.

He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout by conducting a service project on water conservation, focused primarily on bringing awareness of conservation issues in the area to the younger residents of Montauk, Mr. Van Scoyoc said. The project, Cooper told the board, consisted of a presentation to grades five through eight at the Montauk School regarding water conservation and what individuals can do about it.
