Ahead of dropping temperatures expected to freeze the rain and slush left by Tuesday's inclement weather, a majority of schools in East Hampton and Southampton Towns have announced delayed openings for Wednesday.

East Hampton, Montauk, Springs, Bridgehampton, Sag Harbor, and Southampton schools will all open two hours later than usual, the districts announced on Tuesday evening.

East Hampton Town government offices will open two hours later on Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement on Tuesday evening warning of patchy ice developing overnight as temperatures drop into the 20s. The advisory was in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday. With many school employees commuting from points west and already on the roads at that hour, the decision to open later was likely in consideration of that.
