The Springs School fourth-grade opera, “Learning to S.W.I.M.,” took the stage last Thursday, and it might just be the best one yet.

There were all different roles in this show, some onstage and some offstage. Everyone had to memorize their lines, and songs they sang, so it looked great onstage. The plot involved a fish in a new tank, and the process of his learning about his new school and its core values: support, willingness, inclusion, and motivation.

The Journalism Club had the “opera-tunity” to interview some key people in the making of this performance.

One person was Sondra Vecchio, a science teacher who is one of the directors of the opera. Ms. Vecchio said her favorite scene was the ending. When asked about the making of the opera she said, “It’s a group effort.”

Henry Sullivan, the lead of the show, was also interviewed. His favorite song was “Inclusion” because it is very catchy. He was excited to get the lead because he will only be in the opera once. Ashley Dellapolla, another director of the production, said her favorite scene was one involving a physical education test and that her favorite costume was an octopus costume.
